This pair of CDs arrived today. Curiously, as I imported the two discs to iTunes (on their way to my iPod, on which I will listen to them) they showed up as "Best Albums 2001-2003" for disc 1, and "Does the future have a church?" for disc 2. Moreover, both discs transferred ever so slo-o-o-o-o-o-wly. Was gibt? Can't the producer give the discs their proper titles before releasing them? And submitting their proper information to Gracenote? Anyone else have these surprises?

I just finished listening to this interesting discussion. My first question is: Who is playing ping-pong in the back of the room? Second question: Couldn't this distracting noise have been filtered out? Third question: What was it really?

Looking forward to next year's discussion and recording.

The space we had rented for the Bernstein panel was a big open room, and the "supervising person" for the space was working on a computer terminal - the "ping pong" effect is the sound of typing on a computer keyboard. I suppose it could not be filtered out.

As to the names on iTunes - don't know why that happened - but at least the disc played the panel!

There are a few copies left of this limited edition 2-CD set recording of this panel discussion on Leonard Bernstein. Taped on November 19, 2008, the panelists included Charles Zachary Bornstein, conductor; Sedgwick Clarke, Editor of Musical America; Dennis Rooney, noted producer of Mahler recordings; and Lewis Smoley, (then) vice-president, now president, of the Gustav Mahler Society of New York. The complete discussion, with personal reminiscences and provocative opinions, is now available to non-members for $12 (including shipping). All orders must be prepaid; send your check, payable to "The Gustav Mahler Society of New York" to the Society: P.O. Box 1467, Old Chelsea Station, New York, NY 10113. Please allow 10-14 days for shipping.
